What is ip address?

Ans :- ip address stands for 'internet protocol address'.

An ip address is an address which is used to identify any devices connected to the network and the internet using transfer control protocol / internet provider. This devices can be computers, smart phones, tablets, routers etc.

An ip address is a 32-bit number that identifies a computer on the internet.

All websites on the internet is found by it ip address not it's domain name.

Types of ip address


There are many types of ip address, which are as follows :

1. Static ip address 
2. Dynamic ip address 
3. Public ip address 
4. Private ip address 
5. Shared ip address 
6. Dedicated ip address


1. Static ip address

This is a static ip address which is configured manually. It identifies each system in the same network.
When a device is assigned a static ip address, the address does not change.


2. Dynamic ip address 


Most devices use dynamic ip, which are assigned by the network when they connect and change over time.
This ip address upedated time-to-time as user connect / reconnect the network.
Dynamic host configuration protocol server is responsible to configure it.

3. Public ip address 


Public ip address is publically available and accessible from any computer in the world.It is configured by internet service providers.
This ip address scope is global. This ip address is used to get internet service.

4. Private ip address 


Private ip address identifies private business networks and can not be accessed from any other computer in the world.
It is accessible from the same private network.
This ip address scope is local. This ip address is work only in LAN (Local area network).

5. Shared ip address 


This ip address allows using more than one site on a server. The server uses single ip address for multiple sites.

6. Dedicated ip address 


This ip address doesn't allows using more than one site on a server.
Every single website can have an ip address specifically allocated to it.
